hare.
bright green grass ripe with dew
a sunny summer sky with clouds so blue
on top of a hill or under a tree
she hops around do you see? do you see?
she dances and prances
without worry or care
she dashes and tumbles
not a second to spare!
“not so fast little hare!
you might stumble and fall!”
but to this she just said
“im not worried at all!”
“but there’s danger and sorrow
in every pit and burrow!”
and to this she replied
“if you’re scared then don’t follow!”
“aren’t you nervous?
aren’t you scared?”
but the little hare’s answer
shocked even the bear
“i run very fast without worry or care,
i hop and i stumble, even fate i dare,
call it reckless or wild, daring or brash
but there’s no greater feeling
than running a dash!”
“you worry about every critter with teeth
i’d rather have fun with my soft furry feet
you worry about how i’d stumble and fall
i’m a hare not a snake! i hop i dont crawl!”
“and if soon i get caught in a hunter’s snare
i wont die with regret, i wont say its unfair
yes i stumbled and fell, bumped my head on a tree,
but at least in the end, i know i was free.
and if any of you feel afraid or scared,
just think of the hare who just smiled and dared.”
